Passion and Purpose
Passion and purpose are not defined by age. Anyone at any stage of their life can choose to follow their passion and live their life purpose. We are all on the Earth at this time to fulfil a pre-determined purpose. Some of us know what that purpose is, but most people continually search for it throughout their lives. Others still, know they are not doing what they ‘should’ be doing but they are too busy to fully contemplate this further, and continue in their chaotic lives until a crisis happens and they are forced to stop and re-evaluate their life.
This blog post is titled Passion and Purpose because, if you are still searching for your purpose in life, a good hint is to contemplate your passion. What is it that you are passionate about? What topic or activity ignites your interest? Maybe it is buried deep and you haven’t allowed yourself to contemplate it for a very long time.
Sometimes your passion and purpose is linked to a negative experience you had during an earlier part of your life. Maybe that experience taught you things that you would like to share with others who are going through similar events. Maybe there was someone or something that you needed during that time in your life, but you couldn’t find it. Consider whether your purpose is to provide that for others. When people stumble across their passion and purpose their face lights up, their words flow freely and their creativity is ignited.
For me, the process of facilitating someone to find their passion and purpose is an honour and privilege and the things that occur during this process are profound. When the person stumbles across their purpose in conversation, immediately their eyes change. Their speech becomes more animated and I can see in their face that they have this recognition or ‘knowing’ from deep within them that- ‘this is it!’. From there the ideas start flowing. Sometimes this is a slow trickle because their mind is so used to shutting these thoughts down, because “it is too hard”, or “you’re not good enough”, or “what makes you think you could do that”.
Once these limiting thoughts are surpressed and the person keeps going with their exploration I start seeing the hope in their eyes. They are hoping that, just maybe, they can achieve what they previously thought was impossible. The ideas start flowing faster and any inhibition that they had previously, about whether they are ‘deserving’ or ‘good enough’ to achieve their dreams, are totally swept away in the tornado of hopes and dreams and ideas that are flowing out of them.
As time goes on and the person continues to explore, plan and implement the changes needed another amazing thing happens. The person reports some very interesting things. They end up experiencing some synchronistic events that helps lead them further along the path towards their dreams. These events commonly include meeting people who are wanting to help them towards their goal and/or, being offered opportunities out of the blue that take them closer to their goal.
Alongside the increased opportunities, people also report improved health including increased energy levels and significantly decreased stress. When I see these people they are jumping out of their skin with the endorphins being released. Their skin is clear, their eyes are bright and they actually glow with the euphoria they are experiencing.
It is not all plain sailing for them though, they still need to watch out for the doubt that will still creep in. I teach them ways to recognise when this is happening and ways to manage this. I also help them with how to respond to the people in their lives who are so used to the person they were, and who are having difficulties accepting the change that is occurring. I help my clients to communicate gently and effectively with those loved ones who are wanting to draw them back into their old life, back into the life they are leaving behind. It is very difficult to re-enter that old life, when you have glimpsed the life of passion and purpose that you are moving towards. Sometimes it is necessary to develop new networks and friendships with people who are more aligned with where you are going.
When you allow yourself to enter the ‘flow’ that occurs when you realise your life purpose and you start moving along that path towards that purpose, all other aspects of your life align and improve. Your family life improves because you are happier and more confident, your connection to loved ones who are supportive of your goals strengthen and you develop an inner peace the like of which you may never have experienced in your life before. Once you step on the path, you have absolutely no doubt of where your next step should be. The path before you is lit like a runway and all you need to do is keep stepping towards your purpose.
